HOW TO create panoramic photo with Hugin

I suppose you have a couple of photos and you want to create one big panoramic photo of them. Here is how to do that. Firs you will need to install program called Hugin. To do this type:

sudo apt-get install hugin

When program is installed press 'Alt+F2' and then type hugin to start the program. You should see a screen like this:

Now click on the 'Load images' and select two or more images you wish to merge. For this how to I will create panoramic image of three pictures. The procedure for more than three pictures is almost identical and if you reed the tutorial you'll know what to do ;)

Next, it will show up following screen, press ok:

Left picture is the first picture which I want to merge with the second. I want to merge them so that the first one is left part in the panoramic photo and the second one is right part. To do this I need to select 'Control points'. These are the points that are the same on both pictures. To connect these two picturess we need at least two common control points. We select them as following. Click on left picture at its right end somewhere where are as much details as possible and put the control point with second click. Now click on the right image at the part of the picture where you have putted control point. If you have selected part with enough details the little yellow circle should appear at the same point. If not move it manually to the roughly same spot and press 'Fine-tune'. Finally click on 'Add' to add a control point. Do this once more for the same couple of pictures so at the end they have two common points.

Now select the second picture on the left and third one on the right and repeat the procedure.

Next click on the 'Assistant' tab and then click on 'Align'.

If you get the wavy horizon you can click on the 'Straighten' button.

Close the 'Align' window, click on 'Create panorama', select location to save your new panoramic image and wait a couple of seconds for the process to finish.

We don't need Hugin anymore so you can close it. Since the picture isn't straight as it should be we need to fix this. Navigate to the folder where you have saved the *.tiff. Right click on the file and select "open with>Gimp'. We will cut the outer part of the image so we get it in nice shape. Select the rectangle tool and select the part of the image that you want to end up with.

Next click on 'Image>Crop to Selection'. I was left with this.

Pretty neat, huh? :)
All that's left to do is to save the image. Click on 'File>Save Image As' and save it as *.jpg.

Click on 'Export' and set Quality to 100. That's all. The pictures I used are pictures of Primosten, a small town in Croatia. Hope you like it :)
